About

my approach

This work isn’t about getting rid of painful thoughts or emotions, but to really discover and cultivate the tools you need in hard places - communication, relationships, decisions, parenting, uncomfortable thoughts and feelings - or any place where you lose your connection to what matters. ~ My work is from an evidence-informed perspective. This means that I use treatment methods that emerge from scientific research, clinical expertise, and your own lived experience. Grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the work I do helps you practice mindfulness and acceptance-based behaviors, contact what matters, and take steps that are in the service of the life you want and the person you want to be - even when the hard thoughts, feelings and sensations are present. ~ It can be difficult to reach out. Some people find themselves thinking “it’s not that bad” or “I should be able to handle this by myself” or even, "I don't know if I'm ready to deal with this yet". There are no requirements for therapy. If you're feeling lost and stuck, we'll find the clearing where you can see the next piece of work ahead for you. ~ Clients who find themselves drawn to this type of work typically have a curiosity about the mind and body. And an interest in the mind and heart. ABOUT ME: I am a licensed psychotherapist practicing in South Portland, Maine. I hold a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia and a Master of Social Work from Boston University. I truly love what I do and work every day to offer the best and most up-to-date and clinically effective services to my clients. I regularly participate in workshops and trainings around the country to build and maintain my therapeutic skills. I also provide consultation to fellow therapists looking to become more proficient in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am an active member of the trail running community, a dog lover, a food lover, and a comedy lover. I have a deep interest and dedication to mindfulness practices and insight meditation.
