“Make sure your worst enemy doesn’t live between your own two ears.” – Laird Hamilton
The Mental Training Program for Athletes is an individualized program designed to help you navigate through the most challenging aspects of sport:
-maintaining mental toughness during training
-race day anxiety
-lack of confidence
-dealing with post-race blues
-surviving an injury
-finding your mojo
-“just getting started again”
The program consists of an initial evaluation, followed by an individualized plan to address your mental or emotional roadblocks through skills training (e.g., mindful breathing, record keeping of thoughts and feelings, guided meditations) and discussion. These exercises are designed to help you develop greater moment-to-moment self awareness, increase tolerance of negative thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, and improve regulation of attention and values so that you can utilize your talents, skills, and training to your best potential.
The program is specifically tailored to your needs and sessions can be arranged as weekly appointments and/or to occur at critical points in your training. As with any training program, you will get out of it what you put into it.
This program is intended for individuals 18 and older and can be successful in a variety of sports (running, swimming, cycling, triathlon, golf, tennis, and more).
REMOTE SESSIONS AVAILABLE!
Sessions can be held in person in my Scarborough, ME office or over the phone, Google Hangout Video Call, or Skype.
“If you have everything under control, you’re not moving fast enough.” – Mario Andretti
This program is not an athletic coaching program in that I do not provide services such as nutritional evaluation or plans, specific workout plans or training schedules, although I am happy to refer you to individuals who do. The mental training services I offer are not a substitute for psychotherapy. If you are currently in therapy or otherwise under the care of a mental health professional, please consult with your mental health care provider regarding the advisability of working with me and make that person aware of your decision to proceed with our training relationship. If you are not currently in therapy and we determine together that you would benefit more directly from psychotherapy services, I will make the appropriate referrals to assist you.
