Mindfulness for AThletes GROUP

This group is open to anyone seeking to enhance their training or performance, find their mojo, survive an injury, or “just get started” again. Members will learn to develop greater moment-to-moment self awareness, increase tolerance of negative thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, and improve regulation of attention and values.  

Sessions will be comprised of group discussion, in-session and out-of-session tasks, and education about concepts such as mindfulness, acceptance of thoughts and feelings, making values-based decisions, and setting goals.  Members will be encouraged to explore their sense of self as it relates to athletics.

Group FAQs:
~When and where is the group?
​Groups will be held every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:15pm starting January 20th, 2016.  We'll meet at 20 Mussey Road in Scarborough on the second floor.  Enter the building at the back (plenty of parking in front and back of building) and go up to the second floor, our office suite is at the top of the stairs to the left - come right in.  There will be signs to direct you to the office as well.

~How many sessions is the group?
The group will run for 6 weeks (Jan 20th to Feb 24th, 2016)

~How big is the group?
​Group size will be approximately 8-12 people

~How much does it cost?​
The cost for 6 sessions is $125


~How do I pay for the group?​
You may pay for the group at the first session by check, cash or credit card.  Payment will be $100 (cost of the group minus $25 registration fee).

~Is there a specific age range for this group?

This group is being offered to adults age 18 and over

~How do I register for the group?​
Please use the form below to register for the group; a registration fee of $25 will reserve your spot - you may pay the remainder of the balance ($100) at the first meeting.  You may make a registration payment via check (please make checks out to Mindy Slovinsky, LCSW and mail to 20 Mussey Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074) or request an email invoice (with a link to make an online payment with a credit card).  Registration is complete when registration fee is received.


~What if I have to miss a session?​
I can provide you with the materials we covered during the meeting.  

~What happens if there's a blizzard? 
That's a real possibility this time of year!  If there is weather that makes travelling dangerous, I will notify group members of a cancellation by 2pm on the day of the group by email.  I'll also post it here on the website.  We will decide as a group when to make up the missed session.

~What do I bring to the group?
We'll be sitting on a carpeted floor in a circle - please bring a comfortable cushion to sit on if you like.  You do not need to bring anything else!

~What if I'm on the fence about joining?
Just remember that everyone else in the group most likely has the same reservations that you do!  Coming together as a group to learn and share experiences can be a powerful process.  I'd encourage you to give it a try - there will definitely be laughter and an easy-going feel.  The exercises will challenge your mind and push your self-discovery.

~Is the group confidential?
Membership in the group and sharing in the group is completely confidential.  We will review the agreements of confidentiality at our first meeting.
 
~How will I know if the group is full?
Once the group is full, I will close registration and start a wait-list for another group.  If you are placed on a wait list, you will be notified as soon as possible when the next group will be starting.

~Do I have to do a certain sport or have a certain ability to be part of the group?
You don't have to be part of a team, engage in a specific sport, or have a certain ability level to be part of the group.   If you're not motivated to work out or train, or you haven't worked out in a while and are trying to get back into it, you are welcome in this group!  If you're hoping to improve your performance and are working hard toward an important goal race, you are welcome in this group!  If you're currently injured and feeling stressed out about it, you are welcome in this group!  Anyone with an interest in improving their athletic experience is welcome here.
